Our House Plans/Timeline

Thank you for all of your excitement over our big news yesterday, we are really excited and can't wait to create a home for ourselves and our future family! I mentioned that our house needs a little bit of TLC before we move in, so it will probably be about a month or so before we can officially call it home. I'm excited to take before and after pictures to show you what a difference new flooring and paint make for the place and I think Joe is excited to give the yard an extreme MowJover!

As soon as we found out our offer had been accepted, I started searching Pinterest for inspiration. There's only so much you can do to make an apartment your own, so I'm excited about having a more permanent place that I can really decorate! I've been planning how I want to decorate each room and I can't wait to put our personalities and story into the decor in each room. When we're all moved in, I plan on doing a little home tour so you'll have to watch for that here on the blog!

Follow Life with Amberly and Joe's board Our First Home Inspiration on Pinterest.

Yes, purple will be a common color in our house, my poor husband has no choice. ;) Now I just need to decide what color to pain the front door. Any ideas?!?!

Which room would you want to decorate in your house first and why? What color schemes do you like to use? How do you incorporate your personality into your decorating?

  2. The first room we gave a make-over was the office. More because it was the easiest than anything else. I'm hoping to do our master bedroom in the next few months.

  3. Decorating a house is so much fun!! But it would be funner with a bigger budget. . . ha! Also, it's a lot of pressure for an interior design teacher. Time for me to put my money where my mouth is.

  4. Ooh I love your inspiration board! I'm just in the beginning stages of decorating our home (right around the time we'll be leaving it haha). Congrats on getting the house, friend!!

  5. I'm loving the "Get Naked" sign in the bathroom that I see on your pinterest board! lol Also I'm loving all the purple. I've tried to keep the purple to our bedroom only, but if i really did what I wanted, our whole place would be purple. As for your front door, I think I would go with red. I just love how a bright front door pops against the outside walls and red works well with green plants, grass and trees. :) Just a suggestion. I am so happy for you two and little jealous. We will be in this apartment for like 4 more years. ugh

  6. Haha, that may be the thing I'm most excited to put up ;) My mom thinks I'm crazy!!!! I just need to figure out what colors I'm painting the letters and what design I'll do on them :)
Thanks for the door suggestion! I actually kind of like that. I'm definitely incorporating purple all throughout, I can make it work with every color scheme, just you wait ;) hahaha, I say you should do it too!

  7. Haha, yeah, that's why I haven't done much yet because I never knew how long we'd be somewhere. Now I can really plan though :)

  11. How big, how much, where? Justin and I are looking for housing this summer, too!

  12. We're purchasing in South Davis County :) We like the area. Our house is about 1800 sq. ft. so not terribly big but perfect for us! :) Where are you guys looking to live?

  13. South Salt Lake County or Lehi.

  14. I've heard Lehi is a really great area! :)

  15. A red door is a sign of hospitality and being welcome in may groups and cultures, so I think you can never go wrong with a nice red :)

  16. I think I'd do the bathroom first because it's often the smallest room (and easiest, I think). Then build from there. Starting with a big room would be too daunting at first.

  17. I think if I didn't have as much time to think about it before we moved in, that would be my first room as well. Bathrooms are so easy because just a couple of towels give you a color scheme ;) I'm starting big this time because I found some awesome inspiration for my kitchen and front room area.

  18. Oh and because I'll have three bathrooms to decorate now and I can't decide which color schemes to use for which room! :(

  19. First of all I wanted to say congrats on your home! I got so excited when I was decorating my apartment and I cannot imagine what I would do with a house! I agree with many of the other people have already said for you to start small and build upon it. You have plenty of time to make it amazing!! :D

  20. Thank you so much!!! :) I'm excited to decorate. It's great that I have time. We won't move in for about a month, so I am taking pictures of the rooms and figuring out where I want to put things :)
